St Martins Church

Hidden Gem

St Martins Church is the first church founded in England, the oldest parish church in continuous use, and the oldest church in the entire English-speaking world. As such, it is recognized along with Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine's Abbey as part of a World Heritage Site.

The churchyard contains the graves of many notable local families and well-known people including Mary Tourtel, the creator of Rupert the Bear.

It is an amazing feeling going to a service in the oldest church in England, you can really feel how the whole building is steeped in history.

I often get the bus from the bus stop right outside the church, you can really see the age of the building. It's amazing that it's still standing, the builders obviously knew their stuff!
